"South Georgia's awesome serenity belies the devastation of mans history imposed on its tranquility. In 1904 whaling commenced and within 60 years every procurable, whale, seal, penguin had been melted down for oil, industry of man had exhausted its natural resource. What stands today are skeletons of that commercial exploitation slowly being consumed by the forces of nature. South Georgia's history is a poignant reminder to society, what will happen if we do not manage resources in a sustainable way."
